Last week, WGSSS was delighted to welcome its newest cohort of ESRC-funded doctoral researchers to Sbarc | Spark, Cardiff University, for the 2026 WGSSS Student Induction.
Bringing together students from across the WGSSS partnership, the induction events provided an opportunity for new researchers to connect with peers, meet members of the wider WGSSS community, and learn more about the opportunities available throughout their doctoral journey.
The programme began with a welcome social hosted by the WGSSS Cluster Reps, giving students an informal opportunity to meet fellow researchers and build connections across Wales.

The induction day itself featured a range of sessions introducing students to the support, training and development opportunities available through WGSSS and the ESRC. Students heard from WGSSS staff and key partners across the network, gaining valuable insights into doctoral study, collaboration, and how to make the most of the resources available to them.
A highlight of the induction was the presentation of the WGSSS Impact Prize awards, celebrating students whose research has demonstrated exceptional impact and engagement.
