The Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD) annual conferences attract colleagues from across the academic, policy, public, private, and third sectors in Wales; and have become established as the largest social science conference in Wales.
The WISERD Annual Conference 2026 will take place over two days (Wednesday 8th – Thursday 9th 2026) at Cardiff University.
We work closely with our colleagues at WISERD in the planning of the conferences, which include opportunities for doctoral students to present papers, enter competitions and profile other aspects of their work in a vibrant and supportive setting.
We strongly encourage all WGSSS students to attend this important annual event.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘In Pursuit of Sustainable Futures’.
Societal fractures, intensified by recent global crises, underscore the importance of these wellbeing objectives. Yet rising demand and persistent budgetary constraints place increasing pressure on the organisations tasked with delivering these objectives. Against this backdrop and at the start of a new era for the Welsh Parliament, this year’s WISERD Annual Conference seeks to explore key contemporary challenges and identify the policies and practices needed to support economic, social, environmental and cultural development goals, both in Wales and beyond.

The call for papers is now OPEN for the WISERD Annual Conference 2026.
The deadline to submit your abstracts for the WISERD Annual Conference 2026 has been EXTENDED to 9am, Wednesday 22 April.
Please submit your abstracts to WISERDAnnualConference@cardiff.ac.uk.
