Preventing homelessness at the intersection of hostile policies: the experiences of refugees in Cardiff
I am in the third year of my PhD research in the School of Geography and Planning, funded by the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership (2022). Working in partnership with the Welsh Refugee Council, Oasis Cardiff, Cardiff Council and End Youth Homelessness Cymru (EYHC), my research aims to better understand how refugees who have received their status via the asylum pathway experience homelessness and housing insecurity in Cardiff, with a focus on what these experiences can tell us about homelessness prevention and response in Wales.
I take an approach to social research informed by Institutional Ethnography (IE) and underpinned by the importance of engaging people with lived and living expertise in housing and homelessness research and advocacy. I use a range of qualitative and participatory methods.
