How Do Different Cultural Understandings of Trust Affect the Potential for Trusting Relationships in International Relations?
My research is on the influence of state culture on the development of trusting relationships between states, with a particular focus on the US-China relationship.
My research is situated in the international trust and security community literatures, and uses historical case studies of nuclear-capable states which have engaged in territorial disputes which impacted their ability to trust another state.
Research Impact
My research contributes to the international trust literature by providing a culturalist perspective, and further contributes to the security community literature by interpreting trust as an essential component to a viable security community.
