The sustenance, struggle and development of the Hong Kong diaspora(s) in the UK

My PhD project is on the Hong Kong diaspora community in the UK resulting from the 2019 protest and the introduction of the British National (Overseas) visa. I am hoping to look at the characteristics of this diaspora through ethnography. The PhD supervised across two Schools, Modern Languages and Law and Politics. My supervisors are Dr Elaine Chung (Modern Languages) and Dr Stephen Thornton (Law and Politics).

The PhD is part of the 1+3 programme funded by the ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. Before the PhD, I completed an MSc in Social Science Research Methods with my dissertation focusing on the migrant new speakers of Welsh (Cymraeg) in Cardiff.
