Inflows of foreign languages into South Korean society and its impact on politics, international relations and diplomatic strategies
My research explores the relationship between foreign languages imported to South Korea and its domestic and international political landscapes. I am particularly interested in examining languages imported by missionaries from a historical point of view and what kind of political bearing they had. Some of the historical events inside and outside the nation are also considered to include the fall of the Joseon Dynasty at the turn of the 20th of century, Japanese colonisation, the Korean War, and the modern history of South Korea.
Research Impact
The research will have an impact on understanding the relationship between imported languages and their political implications in the South Korean context. The research aims to contribue to existing historical knowledge about South Korea as Area Studies and to future policy making by examining South Korea's diplomatic stance over time affected by imported languages.
