Coercive Control in Court: A corpus-aided discourse analysis of the representation of domestic abuse at trial
This research project uses corpus methods and Critical Discourse Analysis to explore the linguistic representation of domestic abuse within the Depp v. Heard defamation trial. Specifically, this project aims to determine the extent to which myths and stereotypes around the nature of domestic abuse, its victims and its perpetrators are constructed and reflected within trial genres of witness examination, opening statements, and closing arguments.
