Memories of COVID-19: Pandemic Commemoration in Wales
Pandemics sit on the periphery of collective memory; we largely forget they happen and fail to learn lessons from them. Despite early commemorations of the COVID-19 pandemic at both grassroots and national scales, the state now appears keen to move on from this event. This project investigates the remembrance of the COVID-19 pandemic in Wales and attitudes towards its commemoration, focusing on the memories and experiences of people with long covid to determine their opinions about if and how the pandemic should be commemorated. This research will contribute to existing debates surrounding memory and the emerging literatures around the experience of COVID-19 by using the example of Wales to show which aspects of the pandemic are remembered, how, and by whom.
